St. Maria im Kapitol, Cologne
(4.4/5 based on 95 reviews on the web)
The 11th-century St. Maria im Kapitol is the largest of Cologne's Romanesque churches. Although it suffered damage in World War II, some of its centuries-old artworks survived. Don't miss the intricately designed wooden doors from the 11th century, a plague crucifix from the 14th century, or the "Virgin on a Throne" from the 13th century. The crypt displays foundations of a Roman temple from the first (yes, FIRST!) century and of a previous church from 690 AD. • away and only a few steps away from the Centre a veritable oasis, whether with guide or alone, is worth to visit this church itself, mainly due to the historical door panels with precious carvings

  • This church is if you are in area, well worth going to see. It is a large, but not really beautiful church.

  • Recommend-lots of suddenly-surprising in this very important Cologne-Romanesque church at fullest absence of crowds.
