A rice barn from Indonesia greets you in the foyer of Rautenstrauch-Joest-Museum, but that's just the beginning of your journey into the cultures of other lands. People in Their Worlds is the permanent exhibit that draws you in through displays with scrolling touch screens, introducing you to artifacts in your native language. The ethnographic displays approach world cultures from two standpoints: experiencing the world and shaping it. This dynamic exhibit is accompanied by temporary displays that highlight the lives of people in one region or culture. The rice store, the mascot, or let's say the main character of this museum is popular on the island of Borneo by DAYAK (one is the third largest island in the world than 13700 islands of Indonesia, and with an area of 751.936 km according to Greenland and New Guinea). As a child I was even in such a rice store and now you can this incredible building (simply because of the unique, beautiful and is assembled without a nail) in Cologne! Of the composition, I find not so great. You have to go up completely from the exhibition space out and the stairs, somehow I hope that she are a bit more intrigued in space. And here everything is empty as in standard of all public buildings. Would be better if they 1% d. 96% exhibit that she not can exhibit from there on the wall hanging or so... Other defects is located at some exhibits which are exhibited in the glass display case, you can read hard the description because the lighting is not properly worked. By external architecture I am satisfied but unfortunately at all... The building looks anyway not very... You can not see it is a museum.show original

Michael AdamczakThe building is managed and certainly one architect highlight. The new exhibition concept addresses issues that us people move anywhere in the world where we deal with quite different but according to our regional and cultural imprint. It's worth in any case on a guided tour to take part. Also the Museum Shop is worth a visit.show original
