Odysseum, Cologne

#12 of 25 in Museums in Cologne
For a chance to spend an entertaining and educational day at a site designed to be enjoyed by the whole family, visit Odysseum, a science center and adventure museum opened in 2009. The site's elaborately designed theme areas cover about 5,500 sq m (59,000 sq ft), allowing visitors to become adventurers and discoverers of great scientific ideas. Don't miss the center's new interactive science game, opened in 2013, designed to let visitors of all ages combine fun and learning on a journey through science and history. The game starts at the beginning of life on our planet and, in a playful way, takes participants into the future, presenting them with exciting possibilities in science and technology. Check the official website to explore current exhibits, special events, and all ticket options. For Odysseum and beyond, use our Cologne road trip tool to get the most from your Cologne vacation.

  • The Museum is represented as an adventure experience Museum. The high price of admission and catering were the only true experience of what I had. The two areas, e about Earth and life include a mix of Zoo exhibition and what I know everything. Something to provide pedagogically - at least for smaller children - will not be able children here. Everything seems Loveless and unstrukturiert-had thought in fact it would be similar to the Germans. Museum exhibit opportunities to experiment. What the mouse there? I can make to me only this the question of its predecessor even more because this is also unloving kicked out. You would focus on the mouse and implement all mouse stories in experiments that would be but an oversized smoke detectors next to the question what is the best for a Gullideckel? And then quizzendes with Fug etc. I would like to strongly advise from a visit.

  • Our daughter really like these kind of places where you can discover science with simple exepriences / she loved the Technolopis near Brussels and the Strasbourg ship. She really liked the odysseum. The main part is composed of two huge rooms where there are plenty of small workshops where children can experienced many things related to the science and genetics. This part is both in English and in German, instead of the part with the mouse where everything is in German. We thought only spend 1 to 2 hours, it finally stayed there 4 hours and they could stay longer. Adults also find their account because it is surprising to (re) discover some basic principles of physics.

  • We were pleased to visit in the Odysseum and arrived in good mood there. That parking in addition to be paid for, is probably normal, especially in a city such as Cologne. The parking garage is relatively small, parking with cleaning equipment in addition were delivered during our visit. After we then for two adults and two children, 15 and 8 years old, almost 70,-EUR paid admission, we gladly first went in the IceAge exhibition. The climatic evolution of the Earth is explained clearly there, but it is unfortunately not the opportunity to deal more intensively with the displayed exhibits. The entire exhibition, also outside IceAge, families with small children was crowded at the time of our visit. The this existing background noise, the wild, uncoordinated beating, turning and tapping the children on everything moving somehow, made a more experience the exhibition nearly impossible. We have annoyed after two hours and relieved by the above mentioned amount leave the Odysseum. Conclusion: High urgently put age limit, is under 10 years of age here is sustainably to take nothing. Better yet you would put added money that for this publicly as a promotion in the facilities of physics, chemistry and biology rooms of different schools - so would certainly more knowledge imparted.

  • #Amazing #children #knowledge #playground #activities for kids. It was again a great trip. A lot of stuff to learn for kids and adults as well. Playground outside is lovely made including the pirate ship. A climbing garden inside is also great fun! So if you are next to Cologne with you school kids, make a trip to Odysseum! Meet the famous WDR Mouse (orange) , Elephant (blue) and the Duck (yellow)!!! Children can paint on a lighttable or there are some computers to do a stop motion video from the three animals and further more.
  • Great place for kids. Unfortunately a lot of exhibits were under maintenance or were in need of repair. I would take my child there again.
  • This is a good way to spend half a day as a family. The Sendung mit der Maus area has many different educational exhibits, including an area where you can make your own stop motion animation mini films. Although my daughter's favorite is the indoor ropes course that goes across overtop of the other exhibits. Then there are two other large rooms with interactive exhibits related to the earth and science. All exhibits have descriptions in German and English. There is also another room with temporary exhibits. You could spend the whole day here, or see most of it in half a day.
  • I was there last Friday with my 7-year-old son and we had fun, but were rather disappointed that it didn't live up to the billing it is given here on Google Maps: "High-tech & interactive science & technology museum aimed at children". We were expecting something similar to Techopolis in Belgium or Esplora in Malta, but there was nearly no science to be found, and certainly nothing that was high-tech. Unfortunately, everything is entirely in German, which of course makes sense as it is in Germany, but perhaps catering to a more international crowd would be a nice idea as well (at least some information in English). On a positive note, my son loved the high adventure track as well as making films.
  • This is a great place to visit with your children. The variety of displays and attractions is just amazing. Plan for a 4-5 hours visit with your lunch break. The only thing needs improvement is their gift shop which has no items with Odysseum name on it. I think this is something that they could work on it.
