At National Socialism Documentation Center, you can pay tribute to the victims of Nazi atrocities at Cologne's former Gestapo headquarters. The prisoners and victims who were here wrote the more than 1,800 epitaphs and inscriptions on the prison's walls. Don't miss the exhibit documenting the city's own experience under Nazism. The tour is divided into two parts: the first, that of the history of Nazi culture is in German only and therefore difficult to understand. The second, that directly relates to the Gestapo prison, also in English (audio guide recommended) so addictive. Cost 2 € +2 € audioguideshow original
Ao chegar no local sente-se o clima pesado. Parece que sofrimento acumulado local percorre o corpo. A história contada no guia é impressionante e muito importante para lembrar dos terrores da época.Upon arriving at the scene feels the tense atmosphere. I was really touched by the displays at the museum here. Not since my tour of Dachau many years ago did I feel the pain and torment people who lived through such a horrible time in our society. The Gestapo prison in the basement is incredible: this place is almost completely the same as it was in the 1940s when it was in use. It survived Allied bombing and was then used for storage until recently when it was converted into a museum. Because of this, the ORIGINAL graffiti from the prisoners who were kept here is still there. It is sobering to look into the cells and see the original drawings, poems, or calendars that the prisoners scrawled on the walls to keep hope alive or pass the time. What's more, is that the museum has gone through pain-staking detail to find the prisoners who were here and have them tell their story next to their cell and graffiti. An incredible feat. Highly recommended, and it only costs around 7 EUR (I believe).
Place for historical facts in German history. Very small place. Come read about Nazis before going to this house.
A fascinating museum with excellent tours. A must-see for those interested in the history of Cologne.
This museum was intense. This was an actual Nazi prison.
Ram BoukYou should visit it is impress you go down to the basement and see the Gestapo prison. Without a doubt the inscriptions on the wall of these are a document of suffering during the war that left to any markup.show original
