  • All permanent exhibitions are closed. Only the ADENAUER exposure continues. You don't have to get there. Little interest.

  • This is definitely worth trying to find the Entrance. The museum gives a history of Cologne over two floors, with lots of interesting exhibits on both floors. Strangely the more modern artefacts are b...  more »
  • We visited this museum immediately after the Roman-German museum (which we did not enjoy) and were pleasantly surprised. Although exhausted by the previous, we immediately felt revived by this one. Th...  more »

  • Great museum about the history of Cologne. It glosses over the Nazi period a bit and focuses more on the day-to-day life, but it's got a great free audio guide (in several languages) and some really good exhibits. Great to visit with kids too. Great for about 1.5-2 hours visit.
  • They have nice maquettes of the city and impressive photos of the city after the bombing but that's it. Get the free audio tour as many things aren't in English. Short museum ~45 mins max
  • Not a bad museum. Explores the history of Cologne from the medieval period to the modern, though does sort of go backwards.
  • Nice place to see historic items but the signs are only in German. You can get a headset guide in English but it does not cover all of the items. Worth spending about 1-2 hours there.
  • At any case good place to visit if you want to better know Cologne. Unfortunately all labels are only in German. Though stuff speaks English. No audio guide in Russian. The one in English is of very low quality. Don't forget to take 2 euro or 50 cents with you to lock your stuff (you not allowed to take your backpacks with you).

Where to stay in Cologne

The Ring is a semicircular area around the edge of the city's walls from Chlodwigplatz to Ebertplatz. Along the semicircle are hotel chains and boutique accommodations that offes ready access to the city center on foot or via a short metro ride. For access to nightlife, consider the Südstadt area known for its rock bars, cocktails, and theaters. The luxury accommodations in the elegant Friesenviertel area often attracts local celebrities. Search for lodging deals in the Nippes area, which is away from the busy center and known for its local character.
