Hohenzollern Bridge, Cologne

4.5
#Bridge, #Landmark, #Must See
At 409.2 m (1,342.5 ft) long, Hohenzollern Bridge serves as a major crossing over the Rhine river. Nearly 1,200 trains cross the river here each day, making it Germany's most heavily used railway bridge. Wander across the Rhine for sweeping views of the rest of the city on both banks. You can't miss the famous Cologne Cathedral. Be sure to look for the many "love locks" adorning the bridge railings. These fairly new padlocks are supposed to bring hopeful couples good luck. The original bridge was destroyed during World War II. The impressive metal structure you see now was built in 1948. Planning Cologne trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

  • From the bridge there is a beautiful view of the Cathedral, the number of locks is important and gives this bridge a something, a little feeling of new york... After the bridge, there is the 'triangle' Tower in which one can get for € 3 and see all Cologne.

  • You can come here with your love to lock a Liebesschloss to bridge as a sign of your everlasting love. I also hope you the best. If you're still alone, no worries, you'll have an awesome view of Rhine and Cologne from this lovely bridge. :)
  • Great place to visit with your loved one, it's funny to have a stroll on the bride and read some of those love padlocks or/and add one by yourself. You will see a lot of couples there throwing the keys of the freshly locked padlock into the Rhine river. It's just a short walk from public transportation stations, so go for it! And don't forget to take a couple selfie ;)
  • Railway bridge with pedestrian walkway. Since 2008 couples have been fixing padlocks on the bridge - locking their love. It is quite a sight. Cyclists fly by very fast so watch out. The walk from the one side of the Rhine to the other is very nice with great views of Cologne. I highly recommended this impressive structure.
  • Some beautiful sunset views to be seen from here... Nice location to sit down with friends and soak in the sun.
  • It's a bridge I crossed two times during my visit to Cologne. It has some nice statues on either side of it. Not only trains cross it, you can also walk or ride a bike to the other side. Looks old.
