Hohenzollern Bridge, Cologne

4.5
#Bridge, #Landmark, #Must See
At 409.2 m (1,342.5 ft) long, Hohenzollern Bridge serves as a major crossing over the Rhine river. Nearly 1,200 trains cross the river here each day, making it Germany's most heavily used railway bridge. Wander across the Rhine for sweeping views of the rest of the city on both banks. You can't miss the famous Cologne Cathedral. Be sure to look for the many "love locks" adorning the bridge railings. These fairly new padlocks are supposed to bring hopeful couples good luck. The original bridge was destroyed during World War II. The impressive metal structure you see now was built in 1948. Planning Cologne trip won't be overwheling when you use's Insprock itinerary maker.

  • From the bridge there is a beautiful view of the Cathedral, the number of locks is important and gives this bridge a something, a little feeling of new york... After the bridge, there is the 'triangle' Tower in which one can get for € 3 and see all Cologne.

  • Railway bridge with pedestrian walkway. Since 2008 couples have been fixing padlocks on the bridge - locking their love. It is quite a sight. Cyclists fly by very fast so watch out. The walk from the one side of the Rhine to the other is very nice with great views of Cologne. I highly recommended this impressive structure.
  • Lots of padlocks attached to the bridge. Kinda feel sorry for the bridge. Interesting to read and to see a these intimate moments from thousands of lives and it does makr you wonder how they are doing now. Nice place to take photos. Not too much of a view during winter but, hey, its free!
  • Love is in the air at Hohenzollern bridge! The only thing that is more beautiful than the colors of the thousands of locks there, is what these locks symbolise. Some locks go back to the 70's! It's a complete picture of the the fascinating Rhine river and the cathedral in the background. Great experience!
  • It's a very nice place the view from the bridge is awesome.
  • A very popular place to visit. Many people add locks to symbolize love, friendship, or partnership, and through the key into the Rhine. There are shops in the area that sell locks if it is something you are into. Either way, it is a cool site to see all the locks and you get a great view of the area.
