Botanical Gardens Flora, Cologne
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
Both a municipal park and a botanical garden, Botanical Gardens Flora, designed by renowned Prussian gardener Peter Joseph Lenné in 1864, contains more than 10,000 different plant species. Close to the left Rhine banks in the city's north, this 11.5 hectare (28 acre) garden includes The Flora, which occupies the southern part of the park and features a waterfall and a flower garden with a central fountain. More exotic plants, such as orchids, cocoa plants, and succulents can be found in the large greenhouse. The northern botanical garden is categorized according to plant type. In the summer, try to time your visit with the annual Zoo and Flora Summer Night, which offers a music program and a nocturnal visit to the zoo.
