  • The residence of the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha family situated in the lovely town of Coburg is worthwhile a visit without any doubt. The connections with British, Portuguese and many others royal families are...  more »
  • We were there on Min. All museums, castle...etc. were closed. But it's winter with snow. White scenery is always great! Check the pictures I uploaded.
  • Who Coburg just looking at should also visit the Ehrenburg. We got today as a private tour, because we were the only visitors of the leadership. The rooms are well preserved/restored. A very interesting tour of this castle. Recommended - the price is acceptable.

  • I took one of the guided tours that run every hour and absolutely loved the place! Our tour guide was very professional and humorous. I totally recommend this place to everybody, but the language of a tour was German. Not sure if they do an English version.
  • The Ehrenburg Palace was the site of an 1860 meeting between Queen Victoria and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. I have already written about the Emperor on this website in an item entitled “The Emperor rides the Subway”. Coburg is a picturesque little town sitting astride the Itz River. It is easy to see why Queen Victoria loved it so much that she made six visits here from England. That may appear no big deal today but, before the invention of the airplane and the automobile and before widespread availability of railway tracks, it involved many days of uncomfortably bumping through Europe in a horse drawn carriage. The Queen is reported to have declared that, if she were not who she was, Coburg would have been her real home but that she would always consider it as her second home. That leads us to the question of who was she?
  • Visited only by guided tour (hourly, English and German), the Castle offers a number of fascinating environments rich in stucco. Note in particular the Knights ' Hall with 28 atlases holding up the ceiling with arms. But all rooms are notable in their own way in this environment rich in art and history.

  • A guided tour of a special kind, very much recommended. Not only informative, but also really exciting. For children also a great experience.

  • English flair in Upper Franconia. A guided tour is worthwhile.
