Our visit took place only on the basis of a personal recommendations. Often, we have seen an entertaining guide. Many of the rooms are simply stunning, especially due to its ceiling. We had never seen such elaborate, heavy stucco work.

The castle is very impressive to see, reminded me of English castles. Could not participate at the leadership, because I had time only in the evening. The place is a gravel parking lot and no eye candy.

Beautiful castle! Which was also a setting for films. Some facilities are open to the public and are worth to visit. In addition some rooms open at special events (E.g. night of contrasts), which you may not otherwise visit. Worth a visit!

  • I took one of the guided tours that run every hour and absolutely loved the place! Our tour guide was very professional and humorous. I totally recommend this place to everybody, but the language of a tour was German. Not sure if they do an English version.
  • The Ehrenburg Palace was the site of an 1860 meeting between Queen Victoria and Emperor Franz Joseph of Austria. I have already written about the Emperor on this website in an item entitled “The Emperor rides the Subway”. Coburg is a picturesque little town sitting astride the Itz River. It is easy to see why Queen Victoria loved it so much that she made six visits here from England. That may appear no big deal today but, before the invention of the airplane and the automobile and before widespread availability of railway tracks, it involved many days of uncomfortably bumping through Europe in a horse drawn carriage. The Queen is reported to have declared that, if she were not who she was, Coburg would have been her real home but that she would always consider it as her second home. That leads us to the question of who was she?
  • Awesome
  • Great place, very impressive and historical.
  • Visited only by guided tour (hourly, English and German), the Castle offers a number of fascinating environments rich in stucco. Note in particular the Knights ' Hall with 28 atlases holding up the ceiling with arms. But all rooms are notable in their own way in this environment rich in art and history.
