  • Who came early, could still quite easily find a parking place, then it was more difficult for the very dedicated parking referring physicians, even yet close to incorporate the transport (giant backwater on the Federal road). This Christmas market offers ample room for strolling, seeing and also buy and try contrary to other markets. A simple flyer would have made it easier to find the stands and make Christmas embossed in the large park with its many historical farmsteads.

  • MUSEUMDORF a pleasant discovery! Jean A. Vachon OTTAWA - last may, the visit of one of the oldest of Germany's open-air museum was for my wife and me a pleasant discovery. Founded in 1934, the Museumdorf brings together more than 50 buildings from the city of Lower Saxony. They include among others, a charming Wehlburg half-timbered houses, a windmill, farm operators rich and poor homes, a forgery, a small church of the seventeenth century that once stood at Klein-Escherde, near Hildesheim. All of these buildings are located in a splendid landscape framework. It runs as one would in a small village, where there are avenues, animals - horses, sheep, animals in the Barnyard, gardens cultivated as yesteryear. This wonderful open-air museum reminded me of Upper Canada Village in Ontario at the Canada. When we visited, branching off of our planned route, there was rain and sunny one day of week periods. There were so fewer visitors and we could take our time to enjoy, photograph and read the information that educated us about the culture and customs of the Germans. Our last stop was at the restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious shortcake to strawberries served by staff in period costume. Finally, this unusual Museum made a vibrant testimony of resourcefulness, labor, perseverance and ingenuity of the German ancestors. This visit was worth the trip! A Wonderful Discovery In May, as we were travelling in Northern Germany, we decided to change our original planned itinerary and to stop at Cloppenburg to visit one of the oldest open-air museums in Germany. Established in 1934, the Museumdorf shows the history of Lower Saxony's rural area from the 16th century to the present one year area of approximately 20 ha in more than 50 historical buildings surrounded by gardens and other peasant agricultural areas giving information on the relationship between human and his environment. On the grounds, one has the impression of visiting a beautiful village with buildings of different periods of german history; among them many rural buildings from farmers of different status. One can see examples of rural crafts, pottery, blacksmith, saddlery and forge, etc. Of the farm animals, such as horses, cows, sheep and poultry, can also be seen on the grounds. This marvelous museum reminded us of Upper Canada Village in Ontario, Canada. When we went at the Museumdorf, it was there and it was a rainy day with periods of sunshine week-day. Thus, we were fortunate to find few visitors on hand, and we had lots of time to familiarize ourselves with the culture and customs of the german people. Our final stop was at the site elegant restaurant where we tasted was delicious strawberry shortcake served by staff in traditional costumes. Finally, the museum was a vibrant testimonial to the ingenuity, working force and perseverance of german ancestry. This visit was really worth the detour!

  • Nice collection of buildings from the area. The region is beautiful. Too bad there's nothing left to do in the winter in terms of crafts is thereby becomes a slightly lesser experience

  • I love the bakeshop inside and the place is a great place to know how Germans are from the start. Nice house and windmills.
  • What should I write still do this? I didn't see in any case, such comprehensive collection around the rural life yet anywhere. The presentation is just great and very realistic. In a House we ventured in hardly any, because we thought it perhaps belongs to the company of the village. So - I think it doesn't get any better. Full marks with a warm greeting from Bremen

  • Very erlebnisreich for young and old. It's a pity that there are so many panoramic images with extremely poor quality. Doesn't have to be. You should bring much time to see everything. Also the bakery is great.

  • I like the great events on the site, such as the garden area in the summer and the Nikolaus market in early December. Always worthwhile. But even otherwise always worth a visit for young and old. There is much to discover.
