Herzog Palace (Herzogschloss), Celle

4.3
#1 of 12 in Things to do in Celle
Castle Tourist Spot
One of the largest castles in the region, Herzog Palace (Herzogschloss) dates back to the early 1300s and now has Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. Walk over the moat to take a tour of the castle, where you will see many of the restored rooms and can visit the chapel, as well as the Royal Museum to learn about the life of the Guelphs. The court theater is perhaps the most interesting part of the castle. It's one of the oldest preserved theaters of its kind and still has its own theater company. Many themed tours are available, including costumed tours and kid-friendly ones. Check the website to book ahead. • This historical castle is very beautiful as it is very well maintained. It is very huge and interesting to walk around. Unfortunately, the front of the building is under renovation.  more »
