Herzog Palace (Herzogschloss), Celle
(4.2/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
One of the largest castles in the region, Herzog Palace (Herzogschloss) dates back to the early 1300s and now has Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. Walk over the moat to take a tour of the castle, where you will see many of the restored rooms and can visit the chapel, as well as the Royal Museum to learn about the life of the Guelphs. The court theater is perhaps the most interesting part of the castle. It's one of the oldest preserved theaters of its kind and still has its own theater company. Many themed tours are available, including costumed tours and kid-friendly ones. Check the website to book ahead. • We visited Herzog Palace which is the landmark for the Cell, we visited the site due to our Danish Queen Caroline-Mathilde as opholdtsig here to death. The castle is beautiful with a nice park all around. We had thought there was furniture from Caroline's time but the rooms were empty and the curtains were rolled down so we could just go back on it. There have also been living a Germany adellig, which was made more out of the spaces. On the top floor, there was an exhibition of old uniforms, it was the most exciting for us to see

  • Celle Schloss has special exhibition about Princess Sophia Dorothea, wife of George I of England. Very lively guide with excellent and detailed information. Enjoyed it very much
  • I was married here in May 2005. In the meantime I was here more often again. Always beautiful again.
