  • For the second time that I visit this castle I am not unhappy. Despite the cold and the rain, I really appreciate the décor of the staff and the environment. Rich in historical culture.

  • There are actually two museums at the castle and a walking tour. One museum focuses on the time the SS spend in the area. Also of what happened here during the war years. The other museum covers the h...  more »
  • We are unceremoniously departed from the Autibahn because a warning label on the triangle Castle drew the attention of us. An impossantes building with towers, moat, bridges and a large courtyard. In its present form the Wewelsburg was built from 1603-1609. In the Nazi era, it was "misappropriated", today a youth hostel and several permanent exhibitions is located under the roof of the Castle. In the garden is a lovely herb garden to admire, and an adjacent restaurant invites you to linger.

  • The museum is very open for everyone, for (young) childeren and adults. The collection is big, astonishing and in very good shape. One can learn a lot about the castle's and local/regional history. Nice settings and displays and a huge amount of information. Reserve enough time of you want to see everything, roughly between 3 to 6 hours depending your interests. In a separate part of the castle a exposition about the Schutzstaffel, or SS, has been set up. One can read and see a lot about the bizarre and unbelievable backgrounds of Heinrich Himmler's elite Nazi soliders during WW2 and therefore this exhibition is less suitable for young childeren. Note that there are strict rules on your behaviour during your visit. For an indepth view 2 or 3 hours are needed. This museum and exposition about the infamous SS combined together for a price of €3,- is exceptionally low and worth every cent.
  • I love this castle ☺️ what a beautiful place. Lots of history from this castle. I really want to see the Schwarze Sunne ( Black Sun) on the floor.
  • Amazing little castle was used as the SS HQ during WW2 and was going to be the new center of Europe if the Nazis won the war Lots of history in and around the town as well.
  • Amazing history.
  • Beautiful place
