Built on the ruins of a medieval moated castle, Schloss Augustusburg was commissioned by Archbishop-Elector of Cologne, Clemens August of Bavaria, in the early 18th century. With its interplay of ornate architecture, sculptures, and painting, it is a masterpiece of German Rococo. Enjoy a tour of the opulent palace to see the imposing staircase and charming frescoes and decoration. Though tours are mostly offered in German, an English audio guide can be purchased. Later, relax in the palace gardens, which are shared with Falkenlust Palace and were named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984 collectively with the two palaces. No wonder that it belongs to the UNESCO World Heritage. The guide was totally interesting, the Lady knew out super well and responded to the questions of the visitors. Especially the impressive staircase of the Palace is simply amazing! I have not seen anything before like it and can only recommend everyone visiting! The castle garden or Park of course much will look like in the spring and summer look prettier. But now one could guess how lovingly he designed and how nice would be a walk in the sunshine. Unfortunately, the Sun settled but not really looking. Photography is not permitted in the Interior of the Castle!

The Park can be visited for free and it is very nice and cared for (the only flaw is that in winter there are flowers and fountains are off). The price for the visit is good (there is also the student discount) on staff. The visit can be followed in Italian via a headset. The Palace is great and it is a real triumph of German Rococo and architecture of the 18th century. In 2/3 hours you can comfortably visit both the Palace that the Park (which is very large)

(10) on that day. The tours are guided with departure every 30 minutes, in German only. It is advisable to take an audio guide. Only problem he must stay with the group from room to room by ignoring the voice of the guide. Inside is a fine example of the rococo style. Little but period furniture pieces including well preserved and are worth the trip.
They had an English tour when we went today! It was wonderful. Beautiful grounds that you can spend hours exploring, and gorgeous palace to explore (only €5 student tour. €7 if you also want to visit the other palace nearby, but that is self-guided).
Castle is very beautiful BUT If you plan to visit it with a tour as a non German speaker then u will probably be very disappointed. You have that audio guide that tell you a lot of interesting things but you will not have time to listen to all the information because the real guide will continue the tour and doesn't care at all about your own progressing. So you will end up having delay with the information of the different rooms because you are forced to follow the rythm of the guide... Also it's not possible to take pictures.
Beautiful castle with a very beautiful garden. It would be great if you could allow to take pictures inside the castle
Very nice park, so big and calm. If you are thinking to clear your mind and relax, then definitely this the right place
Beautiful castle which is definitely worth a visit.
