Schloss Augustusburg, Bruhl

(4.4/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Built on the ruins of a medieval moated castle, Schloss Augustusburg was commissioned by Archbishop-Elector of Cologne, Clemens August of Bavaria, in the early 18th century. With its interplay of ornate architecture, sculptures, and painting, it is a masterpiece of German Rococo. Enjoy a tour of the opulent palace to see the imposing staircase and charming frescoes and decoration. Though tours are mostly offered in German, an English audio guide can be purchased. Later, relax in the palace gardens, which are shared with Falkenlust Palace and were named a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984 collectively with the two palaces. • 訪reremasu easy in a world heritage site located on the way to the Cathedral of Cologne Bonn Beethoven so near the train station. Very useful, good access World Heritage sites within easy walking from the train station so transfer time can visit without. Exploring the wide garden, makes me feel elegant.

  • A journey through time that is worth that we're amateur of art, architecture, gardens, nature, history, is an attraction not to be missed in the region. The hunting lodge is well worth the walk through a beautiful forest of hardwoods. For the Liege I was, interestingly enough to complete its culture with this castle directly linked to the Principality of Liège.

  • Beautiful building but needs to be managed a bit better. Guided tours only and no pictures allowed inside (lame). They do have headsets with different languages for those who don't speak German.
  • Beautiful castle with much historical significance. I highly recommend a tour of the interior for a look at the ornate stairway.
  • Vertalen impressive castle. Pity you can't take any pictures.
  • Very nice castles in the west of germany. Too bad the great castle (augustusburg) is only visitable with a guided tour and it's only an hour. And no picturetaking inside! But the fabulous art makes up for it, grand and majestic, a fine example of roccoco. The small castle is smaller but just als nice and worth the walk. The gardens are also great!
  • I used to visit there when I was living near there. Locals are blessed to have so peaceful and beautiful place nearby!
