Landmark Tourist Spot
Town Musicians of Bremen (Bremer Stadtmusikanten) is a bronze statue of four stacked animals by Gerhard Marcks depicting the Town Musicians of Breman. In the lore of the Brothers Grimm, a donkey, dog, cat, and rooster left their farms and owners, deciding to head off together--as their own masters--to become musicians. Along their journey to Breman, they notice burglars in a cottage. They stand on one another's backs to see in the window, making a racket to scare away the burglars. Long story short: The animals end up living in the cottage (which isn't actually in Breman), fat and happy, for the rest of their days. Similar statues are in front of each of Germany's five veterinary schools. • During the guided tour of Bremen (31/07) could not miss a visit to the statue of the Bremen town musicians of the Brothers Grimm. Among other things the 4 animals are also represented in a fountain in the heart of Roselius, viaticum which in the middle ages led to the Navy.

  • During the visit to Bremen, we were looking for of course the Bremen town musicians and were (somewhat) found on the marketplace. I was a little disappointed, I had imagined but significantly larger monument. Of course, the Petting of the donkey paw is an absolute must.

  • A fine building but the visit ruined by nasty unpleasant guides. The interiors are moderately interesting but the outside is excellent. Better to save your €s and enjoy the exterior without paying to be abused by the staff.
  • Beautiful town hall in the centre of Bremen. Currently having it's roof replaced so covered in scaffolding, but it's still open for tours which can be booked at the tourist information office on the other side of the square. The type cost about €5 and took about an hour showing us the main rooms of the hall. Worth a look if you have chance
  • beautiful town square, especially during the summer with all the light and cafes
  • A wonderful building to look from outside
  • The Townhall in Bremen is one of the most important gothic buildings in Europe and therefore in the world. It was build 1410 and was added to the UNESCO world heritage list in 2004. In many ways it is a beautiful and fantastic site to explore the history of hanseatic Bremen. Definitley worth to take a tour and learn more about the worldwide influence of the hansa and the rich merchant culture starting in the 1500's. Definitley take your time to look at some architectural details. It has a room made of gold i had the pleasure to see, but it is is closed to visitors unfortunately.
