Marksburg Castle, Braubach
(4.5/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Marksburg Castle is the only medieval castle of the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed. As a fortress, it protected medieval people rather than serving as a residence for royal families. Built around 1117 and entering the written record in 1231, it has a storied history. In the Napoleonic period, prisoners were kept here. It was damaged by American artillery in World War II. • The Marksburg Castle is located in one of the most picturesque corners of the Earth Rhine-Westphalia, in a 15-minute drive from Koblenz. The castle is situated on a high Hill and in the mist hides the eye completely. Travelling trains is no problem to find a way to lock-right from the station there are leading pointers, simple upgrade, but will need comfortable shoes. The castle is available for visits all year round, but only with a guide. In our case, the excursion was conducted in German, in English, were dubbed the basic points-namely, where currently are. For Russian-language text books are issued, but it is better to have someone who can do the translation, the guide tells us many interesting things not included in the books. Inside the small castle, in winter there very fresh rooms are not heated. Overall, the tour takes an hour, allowed to photograph even with Flash. Free. with regard to the interiors-interested in medieval tv (previously such not met). In General, I recommend visiting the Castle.

  • Fantastic location, view and decent food on site. Tours offered in English as well.
  • Lovely view from Rhine valley and wondered experience of biking around
  • A terrific opportunity to see a castle close to its original purpose.
  • The castle tour was good, but I have had better experiences. One should visit only if they have excess time on their hands while in Koblenz.
  • Nice castle shop with old prints
