Categories: Mountains, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 85+ reviews on the web
See a mountain both inside and up high at Wendelstein. A zippy cable car can take you to the top of the 1,838 m (6,030 ft) mountain, or you can choose the slower rack railway through tunnels and over bridges all the way up. The lookout platform on the top station terrace provides a remarkable view of the Central Alps. The Wendelstein church up top offers religious services. You can tour the peek, or explore the cave, which reaches 300 m (984ft) into the mountain. The Geo-Park provides information about geological history, while the observatory at the summit teaches about astronomy. The mountain even has a ski area for advanced skiers, as well as a restaurant and a souvenir kiosk. • "Electric" on the Wendelstein over 100 years! Germany's oldest high mountain railway is FEATURED in shot and up to date technical security actually a museum piece, but. The industry pioneer Otto von Steinbeis built until 1912 a hydroelectric power plant with two turbines in the valley town of Brannenburg, the train takes to the mountain ride. The power plant was designed so that the braking energy of the downhill passing train by feeding back for the simultaneous ascent of the second train could be exploited. Great 30 minute ride with some stunning views and another special feature: the maximum slope has 23.7 percent. About 6, 5km of the 7, 6 km line rack and pinion drive. Some cramped, but also baby strollers and wheelchairs come with, very helpful staff!
