(4.6/5 based on 5,500+ reviews on the web)
Covering more than 210 hectares (520 acres) through the center of the city, Tiergarten is one of Germany's largest urban parks. Its beginnings trace back to the 16th century, when the area was designated as a royal hunting zone. Later, as the city expanded and the hunting grounds shrank, the park became a popular relaxation area for the general public. Today, the Spree river and a number of important architectural landmarks border the sprawling park grounds. Look in the middle of the park for a large square with a tall column that the locals the Great Star. It was placed here in 1864 to celebrate Prussia's victory over Denmark. Stop by the park to take a stroll, picnic, cycle, jog, or play soccer with the local crowd. Arrange to visit Tiergarten and other attractions in Berlin using our Berlin vacation planner.

  • A great place to bike ride through. We went through this park on a bike tour and stopped at a wonderful place for lunch.
  • Beautiful park to spend the day. If they don't want to walk, can go by bus of Brandenburg Tor to Zoologischer Garten and get off in some attention-grabbing. I recommend the rosedal.

  • Tranquil, quiet, lush, and massive! Like the 'Central Park' of Berlin. A perfect place to get some fresh air and rejuvenate in the middle of the city. There are areas to relax and picnic, many trails to walk/run/bike, lovely stayed, and even a flower garden. Highly recommended!
  • Tiergarten is a beautiful park in the exact middle of Berlin. Water, woods, and fresh air, all comes with a visit or a walk in it. Defenitly recommended. Espacially for morning walks, In the night as I heard - there are homeless people there.
  • A beautiful park right in the middle of the city. Lots of lakes, bridges etc, to just sit next to and watch the world go by (usually jogging or on a bike). Fantastic place to spend a sunny afternoon
  • Pass trough here with the bike almost everyday with the bike and it is a pleasant ride every time, the paths are always taken care of, lots of different trees, statues, lakes. Just be aware that in summer, like in many other parks in Germany, you might find some naked people.
  • Sprawling expanse of green and you can spot a lot of rabbits! Perfect for picnics, running or just chilling. It has a few lakes too populated with ducks.
