#10 of 34 in Parks in Berlin
Nature / Park
A working airport until 2008, Tempelhofer Park now functions Berlin's biggest public park, hosting fairs and events, as well as multiple sporting events. Rest your travel-weary feet in the wide-open space, perfect for relaxing, recreation, and sports. Go for a bike ride or roller skate down the old runways, fly a kite, or lounge on the grass with a picnic. A few abandoned planes help remind you of the park's past and provide interesting places to explore. Work out when and for how long to visit Tempelhofer Park and other Berlin attractions using our handy Berlin vacation route planner.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
