Soviet War Memorial, Berlin

4.3/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web
One of the central war memorials of Germany, Soviet War Memorial commemorates the 80,000 Soviet soldiers who perished in the Battle of Berlin in 1945. Just steps away from the Brandenberg Gate in Berlin's Tiergarten, this memorial was built only months following the battle and the capture of the city. Two T-34 tanks sit aside the bronze statue of a Red Army soldier, while large columns bear the names of fallen soldiers. An outdoor museum just behind the memorial shows photographs from its construction. Add Soviet War Memorial and other attractions to your Berlin trip itinerary using our Berlin vacation planner.

  • Not a shred of irony. Quotes by Stalin intact. A monument to Soviet triumphalism. Well worth the visit, summer or winter.
  • A both intimate and impressive place made of a wide alley leading to the memorial surrounded by massive soviet sculptures and trees. One of my favorite place in Berlin after a few days.
  • calm and sad place. Should visit If you want to see some world war 2 memories
  • For me, this was the most beautiful place I saw when I visited Berlin.
  • Soviet in scale. Solemn, impressive and with an interesting history that more visitors should maybe be aware of.
