Sammlung Boros - Boros Bunker - Boros Collection, Berlin

4.4
#27 of 172 in Museums in Berlin
View contemporary art in a former air-raid bunker at Sammlung Boros - Boros Bunker - Boros Collection. The bunker was built by Nazi-forced labor in 1942, and over the decades it has been used as a prison, a warehouse, a nightclub, and a theater. After extensive renovations that ended in 2008, the building now houses the Boros collection of contemporary art, which includes sculptures, installations, and light performance pieces by some of Europe's most prolific artists working today. You can only visit the collection Thursday to Sunday as part of a private tour, which must be booked through the gallery's website. • I have visited Berlin Summer 2012 and Winter 2015/2016 and this is my number 1 attraction for the city! Awesome art collection in a piece of history. The guided tour really allows for you to engage an...  more »
  • Modern art in a WWII bunker. The bunker is fascinating, the art is crazy fun. You have to book months in advance but don't miss this!  more »

  • Phew, I wanted to come here since a few months. Finally I made it. First I really like the building and think it is good being able to visit it. Second the kind of art shown here is not really my type of beer. I do like modern and contemporary art, but most of it was just experimental. Often I missed the deeper meaning or I just don't get it :-) Find out by yourself probably.
  • This is one of the most amazing tours you can possibly do in Berlin. BUT, it books out quickly in advance so up habe to regularly check the website. Our tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly, informative and fun. It's an amazingly beautiful building. One point taken off because you are not allowed to take photos and because one of the artworks in the exhibition prevented me from being able to hear what our guide was saying, which I thought was a bit silly.
  • It was a stunning experience altogether! 1.5h tour around the bunker. Great introduction to the history and a guided tour through the private collection of the Boros family. I can recommend this to anyone, not only to people interested in contemporary arts. It is a must see in Berlin.
  • Awesome gallery! The bunker itself is amazing, but the Boros collection makes it a very special place. We simply loved it! We couldn't book a tour through their website as it is very in demand, luckily it was the Art Week and they had open house on the weekend. If you don't have a reservation, try and go at first hour and ask if there is any cancellation.
  • Definitely one of the best things to see in Berlin. Absolutely breathtaking building/gallery space! I also loved the story of the owner and the way the exhibition is put together. I didn't have a reservation, just showed up and luckily, they had only one free space for the tour starting in 10 minutes :-) Would love to go again when they change the collection! I cannot recommend this enough!

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
