Sammlung Boros - Boros Bunker - Boros Collection, Berlin

4.4
#28 of 120 in Museums in Berlin
View contemporary art in a former air-raid bunker at Sammlung Boros - Boros Bunker - Boros Collection. The bunker was built by Nazi-forced labor in 1942, and over the decades it has been used as a prison, a warehouse, a nightclub, and a theater. After extensive renovations that ended in 2008, the building now houses the Boros collection of contemporary art, which includes sculptures, installations, and light performance pieces by some of Europe's most prolific artists working today. You can only visit the collection Thursday to Sunday as part of a private tour, which must be booked through the gallery's website. • Amazing collection of modern art in a fascinating building. Admission is by guided tour only, so you can't wonder round on your own, and we were not allowed to take photos. But it's still incredible!
  • From the story to the architecture everything is perfect in there. Amazing private art collection (N°2). I would definitely comeback for the next one. Berlin must-see!
  • Very very nice! I am not much into modern art, but the exposition, and the tour guide, were fantastic. They had a lot of variety and some very intriguing pieces such as the popcorn machine or rotation upside-down tree. They do tours in English.
  • A great gallery with amazing pieces of work. The building is also incredibly interesting. Definitely worth a visit.
  • Probably the best private art collection I've seen till now, and also the history itself of the bunker is amazing. Recommended!

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
