Potsdamer Platz, Berlin

Neighborhood · Hidden Gem · Other
An ever-expanding shopping and commercial area, Potsdamer Platz was once trapped in the no-man's-land dividing East and West Germany. At one of the busiest traffic intersections on the continent, the square now attracts visitors with its ultra-modern glass and steel architecture. This spot marks the point where the old road from Potsdam once passed through the city wall of Berlin. Almost totally destroyed during World War II, the square became the largest European building site in the 1990s. Near the square, you can explore a cluster of cultural buildings filled with museums, theaters, and art galleries. • A lot of effort to create a business district from what was basically unused land. If you like lots of glass & steel modern buildings, you will be happy. Some nice modern restaurants here but...  more »

  • Great example of a phoenix rising from the ashes of the Cold War, awesome architecture, impressive skyline, hustling and bustling busy square, but laid out in such a way that it seems airy. Nice...  more »
  • A part of human history... some of which you can still feel as you walk around this area... other than that, the Christmas Market and the huge shopping Mall nearby are good attractions to visit. Highly recommended...
  • My father and I visited this plaza in Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 in June 2012. It's a very nice place. We visited the museum on the fourth/day of our trip to Berlin, Germany 🇩🇪 and the museum is about the films. It's a very interesting museum. We're the visitors from Dublin, Ireland 🇮🇪!
  • One of the only places in Berlin where you can find buildings with more than 6floors.. much more modern. Full of companies which means not so much going on after 6/7 pm.
  • You’ll be able to see a replica of the first traffic lights in Germany. Potsdamer Platz was mostly destroyed during the war, if you go towards the Sony centre you’ll see one of the last remaining buildings
  • Tourist place, for sure. I'm a Berliner, working next door. kind of unique plaza experience, and okay food and drink options. if interested try checking out the Kaisersaal story and film footage, the only real and authentic story around there. maybe also the film museum, of you're into art house film
