Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.

  • the fountain is in front of the TV tower and as impressive as it is, it's a bit of a dirt magnet. there are some benches if you want to sit and chill for a bit.  more »

  • Relaxing interlude to a frenzied day about Berlin's center. Nice place to take a break and sit on a bench and contemplate one's life.
  • Very big impressive fountain with lots of included statues, which can keep you exploring for minutes. Unfortunately the fountain is the only interesting thing to see here, because all around it's very boring except for the TV tower.
  • Great place just to chill out and watch everyone pass by. Also a good meeting point if you decide to split up for the day.
  • The area is cool but was highly under construction so I can't be sure how it looks normally.
  • The Neptune Fountain in Berlin was built in 1891 and was designed by Reinhold Begas. The Roman god Neptune is in the center. The four women around him represent the four main rivers of Prussia at the time the fountain was constructed: the Elbe (with the allegorical figure holding fruits and ears of corn), Rhine (fishnet and grapes), Vistula (wooden blocks, symbols of forestry), and Oder (goats and animal skins). The Vistula is now entirely in Poland, while the Oder forms the border between Germany and Poland. Wikipedia
