Museum Island, Berlin

(4.6/5 based on 6,000+ reviews on the web)
At Museum Island, you can explore five internationally significant museums: Alte Nationalgalerie, Altes, Neues, Bode, and Pergamon. They house everything from ancient Greek, Middle-Eastern, and Islamic art and architecture, to prehistoric archaeological finds, Byzantine sculptures, and German paintings of the 19th century. This cluster of museums is on the northern half of an island in the Spree river, which flows through the center of the city. Architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel and his student, Friedrich August Stuler, designed the complex. Whether you plan to visit just one of the museums or all, you can save lots of time by booking your tickets well in advance. Some exhibits require timed entry tickets. It's best to get those online to ensure entry on the day of your visit. This site joined the prestigious World Heritage list in 1999. Make Museum Island a centerpiece of your Berlin vacation itinerary, and find what else is worth visiting using our Berlin itinerary maker.

  • Even if I am not a museum0liker, it was great to visit this island and museums on it. I've found them less amusing than Ermitage in St.Peterburg, but nevertheless it was nice.
  • Pictures of Caspar David Friedrich and the Nazarenes are the highlights of the Bildersammling for me.

  • Berlin didn't get my attention until this stop. It's really a lovely place to spend a day at. Just stroll around in this beautiful setting.

  • It's a must visit for anyone going to Berlin. The collection of individual museums that make up the museum island are each the best in their own ways. You would require minimum of 2 days to observes and enjoy everything this place offers.
  • I could recommend you to spend sometime along this area. Its similiar to the Mall of America in DC to me plus you could enjoy it from the boat too.
  • Only in a few places in the world you can find a such impressive selection of museums. Invites the island to linger outside the museums.
