Monsterkabinett, Berlin

3.5
#62 of 170 in Museums in Berlin
For a spooky museum experience, visit Monsterkabinett--a haunted-house art gallery established by the art group Dead Pigeon Collective. Make your way through the dark and daunting atmosphere of this old warehouse as spooky robotic creatures and costumed actors emerge from every corner. The space and collection are fascinating, but the overall experience is not suitable for visitors who are sensitive to flashing lights, loud noises, and frightening scenarios. Plan your visit to Monsterkabinett and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Berlin tour itinerary planning website .

  • I was lucky to attend to the Monsterkabinett, an attraction for cyberpunk and puppetry lovers. This place is magical, and consist in a short tour through a cabinet full with mechanical monsters. It is...  more »
  • At 8 Euros entry per person it wasn't worth it. If I paid 5 Euros I still wouldn't have loved the experience but at least I could accept that price. The show is a bunch of mechanical robots that make ...  more »
  • This is absolutely the best thing to do in Berlin, and it's well worth the eight euros! The 'theatre' is in a great little courtyard next to a groovy bar. There's street art all around the block, that...  more »

  • 5/5! I loved monsterkabinett!! I had been to Berlin once before and was heartbroken to have visited only on days/times when this creepy little basement horror show was closed. It was my #1 to do item when I returned to the city and I was not disappointed!! I am so happy that a place as weird as this can exist in the world. Creative, strange, wondrous, confusing, chaotic, scary, bizzare, horrible, shocking, fantastic, childish, horrific: set your expectations accordingly for this 20 min basement peep show of dilapidated mechanical monster puppets and you will have an incredible, once in a lifetime experience. This is a must-do for anyone interested in macabre, sideshow, roadside attractions
  • Probably the best place in the city to feel the real Berlin vibe - with all this metal monsters moving crippled, making weird noises and performing the real show to the hardest techno possible. You can enjoy the whole story for 20 min and then grab a cold beer in the neighbor bar Eschschloraque built by the same artist in the same style. highly recommended!
  • Must to visit! Not a Museum but a travel in a Underworld where mister mosterkabinett will accompany you to the discovery of this fantastic world and its inhabitants. The visit is in more step in the day, go to buy ticket from the moster's man and go to drink in the bar back while you wait the start of tour! Nuff respect to puppetmastaz!
  • It will remind you of the height of stop motion animation, the quirks of liquid MTV, and the spirit of whatever creepy thing you miss most. Support real artists and soak in one of the best blocks of the city.
  • Well it is something different. I liked the machines and how they move. But it was a bit too childish and too loud for me. Not really scary or creepy. The 20 minutes were not really worth 8 euros.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
