Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin

(8,000+ reviews on the web)
History Museum
Mauermuseum - Museum Haus am Checkpoint Charlie was German's only Cold War border crossing that permitted foreigners to pass through between 1961 and 1990. Though it once represented the separation of East and West Germany, this spot is now just one of the city's many tourist attractions. The checkpoint achieved mythological status because residents of the city were not allowed to use it. Look for the famous "You Are Now Leaving the American Sector" sign. This iconic marker of the past is one of the most photographed spots in the city. Nearby, you can explore the exhibits of a private museum dedicated to the checkpoint and various Berlin Wall memorabilia. • Practical information: entrance price: 12.50 €. Discount for students and scholars Headset: € 5 address: Friedrichstraße 44 hours of operation: daily 9:00 to 22:00 OV: U-Bahnhof Kochstraße (U6) own experience: pricey, pressure and wordy. The entrance is very pricey ... as it is unwise. School trips, tourists. It's really come up and a lot of noise. We had the headsets. 2 x have to go back to the landlord because the headset headset was broken. In addition, I could not understand because of all the noise around me. Can you see much and information about the history. Something ' to ' wordy for me though, it had quickly seen. There are better places in Berlin.

  • Kind of a tourist trap. Hundreds of souvenir shops around and restaurants. It is a historic place since it was one of the entry points between the east and the west of Berlin during the cold war. Lot'...  more »
  • This area seems to have preserved, not only is the checkpoint still there, the whole area seems to be stuck in the cold war era. This gives the area an authentic feel.  more »

  • Very good. Lots to see. It's huge inside. Well worth the money. Shame you can't take photos. Have to pay for a photo licence hence the 4 stars
  • The museum is very comprehensive. So if you're just interested in Checkpoint Charlie, and the Berlin border, you'll have a lot to sort through to find what you're looking for. But it you want to learn a lot about European history, and all forms of oppression, you'll learn a lot in this building.
  • “Small spot huge significance” We've a;; heard the term being used often and now I finally got to see it, it's small but that's what I expected, I'm not disappointed, it was good. Lots of tourists lining up to take pictures with the defence force imitators. Good to see.
  • I went here in the long night of museums 2016. It was the last museum I visited and I was a bit tired. I also had to run a but because it was about to close. This museum is a bit too messy for me. It is not thaaat bad, but this "overdecorated" style is not very good in my opinion.
  • Only giving it 3 stars. Would give it 3 1/2. But no option for that. I'm an Army Brat whose Dad served 28 years (Many of those in West Germany). My main problem with the museum is. It doesn't hit people hard enough. A place like that should leave you in wonder and filled with repsect and honor for all those that where around and effected by the wall and everything conected with it. Was mostly disapointed that it was treated like a Museum and noy a place of rememberence.
