  • The exhibition, Berlin 1937, was so exciting that no time or effort was left for the rest of the museum. The exhibition tries to tell, what was the life like in Berlin 1937, Nazis in control but befor...  more »
  • There's a temporary exhibition now called Berlin 1937 that's interesting, a depiction of what ordinary life was like in the Nazi era just before the war. It's interesting and worth a visit. Unfortunat...  more »

  • Almost magical place, oscillating between a taste of gdr museum and exhibitions that are easy ahead of their competitors. If it is still on, visit the Great 1937 special exhibition! And create a museum box about your own Berlin experience!
  • The temporary exhibition about 1937 in the basement was stunning and beautifully thought out. The permanent collection was very eclectic, and had no English annotations, so I'd skip the upper floors!
  • Great little-visited museum off the tourist track. One of the older museums in Berlin in a beautiful old building, it is all about Berlin and Brandenburg from the founding of the city up until the war. Has some cool pieces of weaponry and porcelain, etc. from the city. They redid a lot of the displays last year to include English text. Cool little Café as well!
  • Splendid museum. We went to see the exhibition: In the shadow of tomorrow. Highly recommended!
  • Must see. Showcases different time periods in the city, with artifacts and depictions of way of life, including during Nazi regime. The special exhibitions on the ground floor do not have English translations. There's a cute collection of children's art projects at the end.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
