Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.

  • I've reviewed this under Alexa Mall. Right in the centre of Berlin. On the 3rd floor of Alexa world. Not that well advertised so a hidden gem. Remember the name of the exhibit as mentioning Loxx will ...  more »
  • This is an amazing piece of work, really incredible. Berlin in miniature with interactive aspects-I.e the ability to start trains, turn on lights or set off hot air balloon. The whole scene also turns...  more »
  • Get a tour of Berlin city center in this miniature land. Can easily get lost here for a couple of hours identifying buildings around Alexanderplatz. My kid who is three and half, enjoyed the trains a ...  more »

  • A model trains-themed restaurant more than a typical site of train model. The shopping mall is brilliant but the decoration of this shop is run-down. You will be disappointed if you are here solely for model trains. Instead, go to the Technique Museum in the south side, there is a huge model train pit in a preserved engine shed.
  • This place is a total ripoff. It's interesting for a kid to look at for a little while but way too expensive. Some things didn't seem to work properly either.
  • Meh. The concept is cool, but the execution leaves much to be desired. The place is dirty and when we went, about half of the interactive exhibits (buttons mostly) were not functional. Simple things like running a vacuum across the floor or dusting would have gone a long way. Also NOT young child friendly despite their website and other online reviews. Chest high walls mean kids have to stand on step ladders to see anything. And the lighting is annoying. It changes from night to day which sounds great, but it cycles way to fast. It's like someone is flipping the light switch every minute.
  • I loved this place. The creators have constructed a living and moving scale model of Berlin, featuring many trains, weather, lights that simulate the cycle of the day. If you look carefully, may of the street scenes feature activities like ambulances going to medical emergencies, zombies emerging from the graveyard, people watching an outdoor movie, and many more for the patient observer. There is also an airport, and an interesting display of what the area around the Berlin wall looked before, during, and after re-unification. fascinating stuff, and well worth the admission fee. To find Loxx, you will need to walk through the mall, and climb to the top level.
  • A mini train setup where you can see the trains pass mini versions of all the famous spots of Berlin
