Leipziger Platz is an octagonal square in the center of Berlin. It is located along Leipziger Straße just east of and adjacent to the Potsdamer Platz. Leipziger Platz was reduced to ruins during the Second World War and was once part of the no man's land surrounding the Berlin Wall, but has since been reconstructed in its original configuration, albeit with modern architecture.Prior to the war, the square was home to the Reichsmarineamt (Reich Navy Office, originally on Leipziger Platz 13, moved to No. 17/Voßstraße No. 20 in the 1900s), the Wertheim flagship department store (numbers 12-13), the Mosse-Palais (headquarters of the German publisher Hans Lachmann-Mosse, Leipziger Platz 15), Palast-Hotel (No. 18-19) and the Prussian Ministry of Agriculture (No. 6-9). Today, it is home to the Canadian Embassy and the American Jewish Committee. There is also a little piece of the Berlin Wall located in the southern half.

  • It's right next to Potsdamer Platz, there's nothing interesting here. From here you can enter the mall of Berlin.  more »
  • This is nothing but a small square, located near the famous Potsdamer square. You can find a Metro station here. Otherwise, there's little reason to visit it.  more »

  • The Leipziger Platz in Berlin has become to one of the most expensive real estate in "Patches" of the city centre. The space is architecturally almost closed. He resembles urban development similar to before the 2nd World War, with the devastating bombing raids on the city. After many years of destruction by the building of the wall of the GDR, radiates the space, as well as also the right beside it is Potsdamer Platz, back in old flower and glory. Renowned organisations, companies, shops and restaurants have settled itself here. Cross over the modern octagonal square leads the busy Leipziger Straße. It combines the Alexander Platz with Potsdamer Platz.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
