  • We felt fortunate to visit this museum with its excellent collection of important old masters. The museum has 2 of only 34 paintings firmly attributed to Johannes Vermeer - we saw The Wine Glass. For ...  more »
  • Kulturforum actually is not a single attraction. It includes several museums: Gemäldegalerie, Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts), Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings, and th...  more »
  • One of the worst made exhibitions of recent times. Who enters the first exhibition room, sees a mysterious device that hope one can be here to learn about the operations and procedures of the Alchemist bars as the first exhibit. Unfortunately, the name of the device (which unfortunately once again slipped my mind), the material and the year of its manufacture, such as when a work of art is at the showcase in the tradition of old museums. It lacks all indications on the use or meaning in alchemy. This prelude is also symptomatic of the rest of the exhibition. It is on the one hand very text-heavy, with endless, complex texts, which are printed in low light and reflective discs or in anything but ergonomic height but not really readable white-on-black. On the other hand, information on the use of certain artifacts are missing again. Also the information about the chemical development of color production was very poor. Beautiful are the Chinese silk works that illustrate the alchemical quest in the far East, but also the German artists of the 19th-21st century color games are very impressive and inspiring. Unfortunately I was disappointed then again by the actually very nice catalog in the form of post cards, because there not the proper place was given to the works of art. All in all a very eclectic mix of art and history, which disappointed.

  • Lots of important works here, it's large. It's also quiet, being out of the way. However it's a modern building and this detracted a bit for me. Also like a rabbit warren, you'll get lost easily
  • Interesting buildings, but total lack of information in English and unfriendly/unhelpful personnel. Speaking German seems to be essential
  • Good gallery, but Saturday queue at ticket counter way too long...
  • The Berlin Kulturforum, with its museums, concert halls, libraries and institutes, is one of the most important cultural sites of Germany. Many well-known and unique institutions are located here, including the New National Gallery, designed by architect Mies van der Rohe, and the Philharmonie and Chamber Music Hall - home of the famous Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as the Neue Staatsbibliothek (Berlin State Library) with its sensational reading room and, last but not least, the Gemäldegalerie, which has one of the most important collections of old masters worldwide.
  • Great place and good caffe inside

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
