Gropius Bau, Berlin

#39 of 189 in Museums in Berlin
Standing in the center of Berlin, Gropius Bau was designed by Heino Schmeiden and Martin Gropius, the great uncle of Walter Gropius, founder of the Bauhaus movement. Built between 1877 and 1881 in a classically inspired neo-Renaissance style, the building stands alongside a piece of the Berlin Wall. It now houses contemporary art collections and serves as a major international exhibition and event venue. More than 20 large-scale art, photography, and anthropological exhibits stop here every year--past exhibits have focused on Native American tribes, Frida Kahlo, and Anish Kapoor. The high-ceilinged cafe is a good place to stop for refreshments. In warm weather, you can eat outside in the garden. Planning Berlin trip won't be overwhelming when you use Inspirock's itinerary maker.

  • Big museum. Nice facade and architecture. I Needed +3 hours to visit 2 exhibitions (Bani Abidi ans Garden of Earthly Pleasures). Some cool interactive art works. I found the two exhibitions very good. I really enjoyed my visit! The only thing that was not so cool is the entry price: 15eu.
