Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.

  • Like stepping into Vietnam. Leave Berlin behind and experience these multiple market halls sprawled on an old industrial site. Plastic housewares, outdated clothing, haircuts, manicures, groceries, restaurants... cheap and gaudy, but also fun and delicious. Pretty far out and hard to find in east Berlin, make the trek if you like Vietnamese food and a bit of adventure.
  • A bit hard to find your way around at first, but then you get what you expect: the experience of being back in some Asian market place, mixed with small restaurants. If you like to cook Asian and cannot find ingredients elsewhere, then this is the place!
  • This place is providing a variety of things from Asia, from electronis to clothing to food. You can get a haircut or a tattoo. In 5 huge halls many shops display their stuff. You can find mostly Vietnamese shops, but Pakistani and Indian stores as well. Also some restaurants can be found. However, most shops accept cash only. The center is closed on Tuesday.
  • Great variety of Asian supermarkets. If you need anything for your Asian recipe you will find it here or nowhere. Traditional Vietnamese food in more than 4 restaurants. You can buy anything made in China. From cheap clothes to toys and electronics. Parking can be challenging in the afternoon. Halls could be kept cleaner. But the food is still amazing.
  • Amazing Vietnamese restaurants and also a great experience, just super authentic and delicious. There are some shops selling a variety of things which is algo good for bargain hunting :)
