Designpanoptikum, Berlin

4.5
#23 of 172 in Museums in Berlin
Described as a "surrealist museum of industrial objects," Designpanoptikum celebrates all things utilitarian, including objects from sports, aviation, medicine, and film. However, the displays are not straightforward and educational, but rather blend objects from different fields to create works of art. The installations are lit in shadow and don't offer any description; instead, you are encouraged to handle the objects and speculate about their use. Your ticket also includes entry to a photo gallery with the work of Vlad Korneev. Choose to start, finish, or center your holiday on a trip to Designpanoptikum by using our Berlin trip planner.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
