Brucke-Museum, Berlin

4.0
#60 of 168 in Museums in Berlin
Brucke-Museum features the largest collection of artwork--more than 400 paintings and thousands of watercolors-- from the Die Brucke movement, one of Germany’s most famous expressionist groups. The collection even features several rare pieces from the early years. Founded in 1967, the museum offers an extensive series of exhibits, including wooden sculptures. Look for original documents pertaining to the various artists, which also are on display. After your visit, wander the grounds and surrounding Grunewald forest. • We visited this small but rewarding museum in December 2017 when it was celebrating 50 years of the attractive Gallery. It is quite a journey out but really interesting to see a wealthy suburban area ...  more »

  • Immediately, I find it a pity that the Museum, which houses the expressionist Association Brücke's works of art, is so relatively isolated in the District of Dahlem, in the outskirts of Berlin. The reason is to be found in the fact that the Museum is excellent and very fine in spite of the fact that there is no question of a large institution. We must, therefore, know its GPS system in order to find the Museum, but it can really be challenging enough, but once you are inside among the German Expressionists, it's quite colourful. The Museum opened in 1967, and therefore celebrated its 50 year anniversary in 2017, and it was just an exhibition, which was to mark the anniversary, which was shown when I visited the Brücke-Museum in January 2018. Very good!

  • Quite far from Mitte and surroundings but well worth a visit. Staff is great.
  • One of my favourite galleries ever. I like expressionists, the place is quiet, elegant, in a smart green area, yet easy to reach by city buses.
  • Really interesting and unique, many paintings to look at. Totally recommended?!
  • Connoisseurs of Expressionism won’t mind going the extra mile to Dahlem by the Grunewald where there’s a fabulous museum for Die Brücke. This group of Expressionists was formed in Dresden in 1905 and among its members were some of the most exciting painters of the period, like Ernst Ludwig Kirchner and Emil Nolde. The museum opened in 1967 and was endowed with the private collections belonging to two of its members, Karl Schmidt-Rottluf and Erich Heckel. The total reserve of 400 paintings, sculptures, prints and drawings is shown in temporary exhibitions that home in on a specific theme or individual painter.
  • A jewel! 20th Czech art. Don't miss it
