Brücke Museum, Berlin

4.0
#63 of 120 in Museums in Berlin
Brücke Museum features the largest collection of artwork--more than 400 paintings and thousands of watercolors-- from the Die Brucke movement, one of Germany’s most famous expressionist groups. The collection even features several rare pieces from the early years. Founded in 1967, the museum offers an extensive series of exhibits, including wooden sculptures. Look for original documents pertaining to the various artists, which also are on display. After your visit, wander the grounds and surrounding Grunewald forest. Put Brücke Museum on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Berlin holiday planner.

Great collection of this expressionist movement. Although it is small it leaps off the white walls and is generally lit in natural light. There are only four rooms for the permanent collection but it ...  more »

A little out of the tourist but circuits what reward for the visitor who goes there: a collection of masterpieces very well highlighted in a specially designed place, a great German art history lesson, a truly welcome very friendly at the image of the place and its treasures

A quality but small selection of expressionist paintings. It makes a nice half day out of the centre and can be combined with the free Allied Museum down the road. However, there was no information ab...  more »

  • Small and exquisitely curated. Five stars. Nice combination with Kunsthaus Dahlem next door. Afterwards (highly recommended): short walk in the woods to Grünewaldsee (easy to reach with Google Maps, just cross the road from Kunsthaus Dahlem and you're on your way). Wow!
  • Is one art museum of Expressionism, it's more like an abounded place ... Far from everything. More interesting for architects of Brutalism style
  • Lovely little museum featuring the works of one of my favourite art movements. Well curated, lovely setting in the woods. Would highly recommend as a nice escape from busy Berlin.
  • Always worth a visit if you like that aera of artists or are interested in learning about it
  • Unique art exhibition,. Compact and quiet place in the woods of Grunwald. Try to walk from Grunwald S station.

Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.
