Brandenburg Gate was built in the 18th century as a defining symbol of the city, but it ended up in the middle of the no-man’s land separating East and West Germany for the better part of the 20th century. Today, this impressive monument epitomizes European unification and continued peace. It often serves as an attractive backdrop for special events, such as concerts. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans designed the triumphal arch, finding inspiration in classical Greek architecture. He chose this spot to serve as the entry into the city’s renowned boulevard of linden trees. Artist Johan Gottfried Schadow’s sculpture of a winged goddess commanding a chariot crowns the gate. One of the most Popular tourist attraction in Berlin. You will find many cafes, restaurant and entertaining activities which are carried out at the destination. Visit during day, has many attraction at the place. But I specially like the place during the night. The lights make it look beautiful. The place being popular is always crowded with tourist so photographers may sometimes find it difficult to capture a perfect photo
A truly wonderful experience to walk in this historic place. As I always hear from others that it would be always crowded and you might not be able to enjoy taking pictures, however in January I think it's fine you could enjoy it. I missed going there at night, they say it's better while it's lit up. But it's was also fine during the day. All in all, definitely a good place to start your Berlin trip with.
An amazing monument right in the center of Berlin surrounding by all the great buildings with nice state of the art architecture. The statues, artwork on the walls of the pillars and buildings on the sides of the gate are magnificent. It is a great delight to see this excellent monument in the center of the city. You can always find some promotions and great events and show near to this place. There are many embassies near to this monument apart from the famous Madame Tussaud's wax museum and souvenir shops. You can also enjoy horse cart and rickshaw rides. The metro train station is just in front and all Berlin travel buses stop in front of this monument.
Definitely something to see while you're in Berlin. Yes it's full of tourists from all over and there are signs warning of the pickpocket schemes, but it's the same as with any popular tourist spot. Definitely don't let that stop you from seeing it. Add it to your sightseeing tour for sure.
This is the second time I have visited this iconic piece of history and how so much has changed - the first time was a few years before the wall came down. I had taken a picture with me that I took last time and seeing the difference was immense. To get to see both sides was brilliant.
