Monument Landmark
Brandenburg Gate was built in the 18th century as a defining symbol of the city, but it ended up in the middle of the no-man’s land separating East and West Germany for the better part of the 20th century. Today, this impressive monument epitomizes European unification and continued peace. It often serves as an attractive backdrop for special events, such as concerts. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans designed the triumphal arch, finding inspiration in classical Greek architecture. He chose this spot to serve as the entry into the city’s renowned boulevard of linden trees. Artist Johan Gottfried Schadow’s sculpture of a winged goddess commanding a chariot crowns the gate. Where to stay in Berlin

The Kreuzberg neighborhood near the Oberbaumbrüke bridge is central and full of Berlin icons: street art, a piece of the Berlin Wall, the East Side Gallery, and a proliferation of cafes. Friedrichshain is another option with a hip vibe due to the students who congregate at its cafes and galleries. Consider Mitte as a historic home base. Mitte is the area where almost all of Berlin's well-known buildings are located, and it is within walking distance of Alexanderplatz. For a peaceful residential area, try Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf where the streets are lined with boutiques and quiet coffee shops.

  • This is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Berlin so it is constantly surrounded by tourists. This does detract from the experience somewhat but there is lots to do here. Always roving entertainers, bike tours, food vans and the lovely parkland to explore behind the gate. If you want to experience it tourist free then come early in the morning. 7:00am or even earlier if you can. Its a great place to sit during sunrise in summer and hardly anyone around.
  • The history behind this Gate is very interesting and this place is worth visiting. i had been there during day time and also night time. At night, the lighting gives a beautiful dimension. and also it is well connected and has few other attractions nearby one can add to their plan.
  • This gets five stars any time of day and any season. It's brilliant at night, in the summer, in the snow, whenever. Of course it gets very touristy, but both sides have huge open spaces so you can get your photos and appreciate the gate without being crowded. The Brandenburger Tor is one of my favorite sights in the world.
  • If you are in Berlin you need to visit the Brandenburger Gate. It is a very beautiful portal in the very center of the city. Because of its popularity can get pretty crowded if you go during the day, specially on summer. So we recommend you to try it at night as well and also try it when the weather is a bit colder. Maybe a blue sky won't participate of your picture but so many tourists won't appear as well.
  • Pedestrian area limiting traffic on both side of the gate, and it was flanked by both the American and French embassy! The Brandenburg gate was shorter than I expected, but still beautiful with the sculptures on all columns! It was good to read about the history of the gate as one of the West/East Germany borders. Definitely worth a visit!
