  • Located on near the Museum (perfect) island of the trendy district of the Hackesche Höfe, the Museum is a nice building of the end of the 19th century, early 20th, tastefully renovated. There are collections of sculptures of the middle ages at the end of the 18th century, and the art Byzantine and Romanesque from the 3rd to the 15th centuries. And also an extended collection of currencies. Marble, wood, metal, terracotta, we find all the materials, and all subjects, religious or secular, sometimes amusing, and especially of the highest quality. At the time of our visit, there was also a sumptuous temporary exhibition dedicated to the great sculptor Canova, who did not like to represent dancers. Remarkably accompanied by drawings, paintings, books, it's a great accomplishment. Finally, for those who want to eat, the cafeteria which overlooks the large lobby is nice.

  • Great artwork here, not too many "famous" pieces but a great spot for art lovers. The museum itself looks like a palace, with a grand staircase, red carpet and beautiful rooms. Find little gems in thi...  more »
  • Last among the 5 museums of the island you can visit before the others. so I only used half hour by not using the audio guide. Mainly ancient history.

  • At the northern tip of the Museum Island is the Bode. I confess, my interest in the Bode has less to do with its collection, which is impressive no doubt but with its exterior and its position on the banks of the Spree.  The Bode holds collections of art and sculpture, many from the Byzantine period. Its collection might not be as vast or impressive compared to others in the region but the building itself is worth a visit. The main Entrance Hall for example holds the brooding statue of the Great Elector before a grand staircase.  During my visit I managed to catch the Holbein exhibition in the Bode.
  • There's a very large amount of interesting sculpture ! You need to go if you have the additional time in Berlin.
  • From all the museums on the island this one was the least interesting. The bulding itself is stunning, but the exhibition wasnt really interesting, but that ofcourse depends on personal taste.
  • Good museum and well laid out. A bit repetitive if you're not into medieval art.
  • Superb sculpture collection in a beautiful restored building which was heavily damaged in WW2. Also, an excellent display on coinage which draws on the Bode's unparalleled collection of over half a million coins.
