  • The Bode Museum an important attraction at Museum Island in Berlin. Here you will find Byzantine, Medieval, Renaissance and Baroque period sculptures, artworks, coins, medals and other artefacts space...  more »
  • Mr. Bode, great architect of the museums of Berlin, would be very honored if I knew that one of the most complete museums of Europe bears his name. The Museum brings together collections of very different nature, such as the Egyptian as its fabulous collection of Papyri totaling more than 25,000 copies, the Byzantine whose maximum treasure is the apse of the Church of San Miguel de Ravenna or his wonderful and exquisite collection of Gothic style flamboyant, Baroque and rococo sculptures that are its culminating expression in the so-called Altar of Antwerp. The building, which is inevitable to compare with the bow of the ship that is the island of museums, is a neo-Baroque jewel, is in itself a Berlin treasure. Huge staircases, courtyards and frescoed ceilings, give you the grandeur of a dedicated Palace pure and exclusively to art, guarded at the top entrance by an equestrian statue of Federico Guillermo. Without neglecting the rest of the island museums, personally I recommend to devote more time to this wonder how good it deserves four or five hours of our time.

  • The entry was already included in the passport of the island of Museu...me disappointed. I don't like much of Baroque architecture and Christian mythology. The sculptures are sinister. The only thing that saved it was the Greco-Roman collection ...

  • At the northern tip of the Museum Island is the Bode. I confess, my interest in the Bode has less to do with its collection, which is impressive no doubt but with its exterior and its position on the banks of the Spree.  The Bode holds collections of art and sculpture, many from the Byzantine period. Its collection might not be as vast or impressive compared to others in the region but the building itself is worth a visit. The main Entrance Hall for example holds the brooding statue of the Great Elector before a grand staircase.  During my visit I managed to catch the Holbein exhibition in the Bode.
  • There's a very large amount of interesting sculpture ! You need to go if you have the additional time in Berlin.
  • From all the museums on the island this one was the least interesting. The bulding itself is stunning, but the exhibition wasnt really interesting, but that ofcourse depends on personal taste.
  • Good museum and well laid out. A bit repetitive if you're not into medieval art.
  • Superb sculpture collection in a beautiful restored building which was heavily damaged in WW2. Also, an excellent display on coinage which draws on the Bode's unparalleled collection of over half a million coins.
