Bode Museum, Berlin

(3.8/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Set in a striking, early-20th-century building, Bode Museum is home to sculptures, Byzantine art, and one of the world's largest coin and medal collections. Admire the sculpture exhibit, and discover fine pieces such as Donatello's "Pazzi Madonna" and Antonio Canova's "Dancer." Study the Byzantine collection of ivory carvings, mosaics, icons, and more. Alongside the coins and medals of the Münzkabinett, you can find seals, tokens, minting tools, and non-numismatic forms of money. • Spacious museum containing large collection of art from different periods. Unfortunately, the exhibit is typical, therefore not breathtaking.  more »
  • Bode Museum-the pompous and not very popular "big museums of Berlin. But for me the most interesting. In its current form, it launched after the reconstruction of the building and changes in the collection-in 2006. But despite it 152 000 000 euro renovation, the abundance of exhibits on the dramatic situation of the building on the tip of the Bode Museum, Museum Island is visited much less often than the Altes Museum or the Museum of Pergamon. And it's good. There are no hit pieces, like the bust of Nefertiti, but has an excellent collection of medieval "naivety" wood of the German Gothic style. And since neither the forces nor the desire at the Museum "CHES" no, you should choose deliberately usable. Hence, The Bode Museum. P.s. and plum pie in the Museum Cafe is very good.

  • At the northern tip of the Museum Island is the Bode. I confess, my interest in the Bode has less to do with its collection, which is impressive no doubt but with its exterior and its position on the banks of the Spree.  The Bode holds collections of art and sculpture, many from the Byzantine period. Its collection might not be as vast or impressive compared to others in the region but the building itself is worth a visit. The main Entrance Hall for example holds the brooding statue of the Great Elector before a grand staircase.  During my visit I managed to catch the Holbein exhibition in the Bode.
  • There's a very large amount of interesting sculpture ! You need to go if you have the additional time in Berlin.
  • From all the museums on the island this one was the least interesting. The bulding itself is stunning, but the exhibition wasnt really interesting, but that ofcourse depends on personal taste.
  • Good museum and well laid out. A bit repetitive if you're not into medieval art.
  • Superb sculpture collection in a beautiful restored building which was heavily damaged in WW2. Also, an excellent display on coinage which draws on the Bode's unparalleled collection of over half a million coins.
