#26 of 168 in Museums in Berlin
You'll find everything Bauhaus at Bauhaus Archive / Museum of Design (Bauhaus Archiv Museum fur Gestaltung), which was founded in 1960 and supported by members of the design movement. The current building was completed in 1979 and features art pieces, items, documents, and literature from the Bauhaus School of architecture, design, and art--which was extremely popular from 1919 to 1933. You also can admire ceramics, metalwork, photography, and even wallpaper designs. The museum offers audio guides in many languages. Look for students making sketches to perhaps peer over the shoulder of a future design genius. • The Bauhaus Archive has been packed up in it’s entirety for relocation to a new building in approx 4 years. The ONLY EXHIBITION viewable is one about the Schools photographic course and its students. ...  more »
  • No Bauhaus archive materials available as they are about to move to larger premises which is a shame because the building is stunning. The cafe is too small. The shop is cool. The website should have ...  more »
  • Reconstruct the building so little in collection is moving and will be closed. When I saw the Bauhaus activity exhibition at the United States ' only special exhibition, but there was no permanent exhibition. Many goods in the shops affected by the Bauhaus has been sold. Would be thrilled to watch Tsutomu Watanabe and LAMY Safari, you have something there.

  • Great exhibition! The story of BAUHAUS and the influence it had on design. Easy to relate to, the common household objects and the design stories behind them. They also have activities in the courtyard and it brings everything to life. Some basic architecture / design history knowledge may be required to fully understand the exhibits. I recommend!
  • The Bauhaus Museum is all about... New Bauhaus U.S., The Institute of Design U.S. ; everything BUT the good German Bauhaus I expected to see and learn about. So obviously I was disappointed ; the exhibition was only containing photographies and films -no sculpture, architecture, drawing, performing arts... I paid 5€ (reduced fee) which seems just normal to me. The Bauhaus shop was super expensive as expected but the items were amazing and of all kinds. We didn't visit the café.
  • Only the section with photos from the Chicago school is displayed. This detail was not show anywhere. And the museum still charge full rate. The exhibition is interesting and very unique.
  • I enjoyed this a lot but don't come if all you want to do is look at furniture. The museum is really an archive with the majority of items not on display and what they show traces the development of Bauhaus, their teaching methods and aims. A few seminal items of furniture and lighting and a good audio guide.
  • I was really disappointed with the size of the exhibition. The space was split in two, a permanent exhibition (from the archiv) and a temporary exhibition. It would have been more enjoyable to have seen more of the Bauhaus collection than a contemporary exhibition. What was on display was very good there was just too little of it.
