  • In the midst of busy streets you find this quiet place, with only one gravestone left, and a small memorial. For me it was many times more impressive than the big Holocaust Monument
  • Located on Grosse Hamburger Strasse, a short walk from Hackescher Markt S5 and S7, is the oldest Jewish cemetery. Here were buried thousands of Jews from 1672 to 1827. In the Nazi period the cemetery was destroyed and profaned, and became a rallying point for Jews before deportation. In memory of this, at the entrance there is a sculpture representing a group of thirteen women skinny, on the face of which shines through heartache. Inside there is nothing left, if not the tombstone of the philosopher Moses Mendelssohn (1729-1786, grandfather of composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy) and wall stalks. Today looks like a tiny Park, cured, in which one perceives the sacredness of the place. Outside on the wall of a house next door, there is a large mosaic symbolizing peace as is seen by the children. The Alter Jüdischer Friedhof is a place to reflect, we recommend you visit for tourists interested in culture of the Jews and the vicissitudes related to their persecution.

  • Berlin is a beautiful city, but holds many secrets. 3° seat Reich, of the dreaded SS, saw and created many forms of racism and intoleráncia in the 1930s and 40. Today redone this terrible ideology, the Germans have created many points in Berlin to that history never be forgotten. This cemetery is one of them, shocks and puts us in reflection of what has been done and what we should avoid in the future.

  • The oldest Jewish cemetery in the city of Berlin (not taking into account the Jewish Cemetery in Spandau, which no longer exists). The philosopher Moses Mendelssohn was berried here. The cemetery was destroyed by the Gestapo. Only few gravestones survived and Mendelssohn's grave has been reconstructed.
  • Site of an old Jewish cemetery that is now a mass grave. The one reconstructed grave is of Moses Mendelssohn. The entire area is well maintained, covered with ivy, with quiet walking paths. The statues by the front are very thought provoking, and you will see where the pebbles by the front gate are replaced on a daily basis.
  • Jewish destroyed at old engraving. At first sight it just looks like a green field but that's kid of it of part's history as the engraving got destroyed. When you walk through you will see some old gravestones. Really peaceful inside, but as next to it is a jewish school, many school kids sit around normally during day times and it can easily get quite noisy.
