Alte Nationalgalerie is part of the Staatliche Museen on Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally National Gallery (which has since been moved), the current gallery features Romantic, Neoclassic, Impressionist, and early Modernist artwork. The building itself is a work of art, representing "the unity of art, nation, and history," according to the designers. At intervals, it evokes a theater, a church, and a temple.
