FC Union Berlin and its forerunners since it was opened in 1920.The stadium's capacity was last redeveloped in 2009 and expanded in 2013. Some of the redevelopment work was carried out by over 2,300 Union Berlin supporters volunteering their services. During league matches the arena features a total capacity of 22,012 including 3,617 seats whilst the rest of the ground remains terracing. The stadium became also known for events like the annual "Weihnachtssingen" and the "WM-Wohnzimmer" in 2014.History1920-1966In 1920 SC Union Oberschöneweide had to find a new home ground as its former pitch had been built over by developers with residential buildings. The club moved a little further away from the city to the north-western part of the borough of Köpenick. The new stadium was officially opened in August 1920 with a match between Oberschöneweide and the then German champions 1. FC Nuremberg . The ground was first expanded in 1970 when the Gegengerade terrace was raised, whilst further extensions to the terracing at both ends in the late 1970s and early 1980s increased the capacity furthermore to 22,500.

  • I was for the second time in the framework of an event in the 'old forest' and am always impressed. The stadium so much charm; It is built with so much love for soccer, which is second to none in Germany. For every football fan a must - when it comes to Berlin.

  • Now, after I had looked at already a game of Düsseldorf in Berlin two years ago, it was the second trip. We got tickets in the "neutral" block directly behind the player benches. And as we sat in the first row, you can only say - that was pure football. So close we never sat on the sidelines, at least not in the 1st and 2nd League. And the atmosphere was really a class of its own. Although Union lost on this day, the fans sang through all the time. There were no whistles against the first team is... something rare in Germany. The stadium was built in-house to the fans and really looks class. The beer prices (€3.80) are also in the normal range. Honestly - Berlin is a journey worth and the Alte Försterei definitely several!

  • As Hannover I'm 96 fan finally after many years to enjoy come to experience an away game in the old forest. At the beginning, there was already a wonderful choreography in the Union fans. Because there are three complete stands (more than 17,000 standing) from standing and most viewers are very motivated it seems here fan with one of the best scenes in Germany to give me (similar to Frankfurt, Nuremberg and Cologne). Although it was 0-0 here long was almost continuously by the Berliners over 90 minutes Sung, jumped, fired in a remarkable volume, shell pop and many flags waved. The beer price of €3.80 and soft drinks of €2.5 is very fair compared to other stadiums. To 2-1 in injury time the Berlin for about 2-3 minutes in a State of shock has brought only the goal, but after the final whistle, it was again loudly. It would be interesting to know how the fans react if you times longer in backlog. Because the roof just above the stands not much is lost on the volume, that makes me very happy. P.S. also were the fans of Hanover 96 on pretty well on it (2/3 of the block), day of the game, including a bigger Pyroaktion, which has led to a Spielabruch of 3 minutes.

  • I had such a blast here, what a fun time. FC Union has such hardcore fans, there's tons of energy everywhere. It's definitely worth the trip to see their games.
  • Hiddin the forests close to Berlin. Great trip with the S/U-Bahn from the center. Loved the genuine Eastern-German vibe there. Welcoming fans as well!
  • Great atmosphare during FC Union's matches. Best football experience in Berlin! Good view from all angles. Note that 3 stands (out of 4) are standing-only.
  • Union Berlin is a great team with an tremendous atmosphere during matches
  • A great stadium located in the heart of a forest. The stadium was built by the fans, for the fans. An absolute gem of a ground.
