Hotel Zum Turken WWII Bunkers, Berchtesgaden
(4.7/5 based on 95+ reviews on the web)
Once seized by the Nazis and used as a bunker, Hotel Zum Turken WWII Bunkers, built in 1911, now serves as an upscale hotel. Although the guestrooms are modern, visitors can still descend a spiral staircase to explore the historic, 1943 underground hallways and tunnels where SS soldiers once hid out. (Many guests say it's a spooky experience.) With no tour guides available, you're on your own to explore; take a German/English dictionary if you can't read the local language. • I had read about this place but couldn't quite figure out how to get here. When we missed the bus to the main station, we came across it on our walk back. The WWII bunkers are absolutely fascinating! ...  more »
  • Very interesting trip down the bunker. Standing by Hitlers personal bunker was a strange feeling. Loads of places to explore, machine gun posts, prison cells and even a hole in the wall by a bazooka, ...  more »
  • Stayed at the Turken and also explored the bunkers. I would recommend the hotel to everyone. It's an incredible alpine hotel. There are no TVs in the rooms and there is no wifi but I feel that's part ...  more »
