Inspirock Rating:
4.2/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web
Delve 300 m (984 ft) beneath the Bavarian Alps at Berchtesgaden Salt Mines. Amazingly, this working salt mine has been constant use since 1517 and today employs almost 100 workers. Don a reflective suit and hop into specialized underground mine cars. At the end of the ride, you'll get to see the mine's subterranean Mirror Lake. Throughout, you can learn about the age-old industry of harvesting salt from the composite rock. You can eat afterward in a restaurant located in the former machinery building. Admission is only available via guided tour. Berchtesgaden Salt Mines is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our international travel planner, Berchtesgaden Edition.
