Lake Chiemsee, Bavaria

Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Inspirock Rating:
4.8/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
Formed about 10,000 years ago by a glacier, Lake Chiemsee features crystal-clear waters and many great spots for recreation along its shores. For something other than water sports or hiking, take the ferry to visit the islands--the biggest one features a castle modeled after the Palace of Versailles, along with beautiful gardens and fountains. Take a tour of the palace, and then catch a horse-drawn carriage back to the ferry terminal. The smaller island is home to a Benedictine nunnery that dates back to 782, where the nuns make marzipan and a special liquor. After a visit to the nunnery, stroll around the island and perhaps enjoy a traditional meal. • Holiday at Chiemsee is always great and the weather almost incidental. The Lake and the whole Chiemgau offer so many possibilities for every taste whether sporting or cultural, culinary or shopping. Just the soul dangle goes anyway! We are once a year most definitely there, sometimes even a second time, there was never bored!

  • I think until is no great infrastructure on the wonderful Island tours. Parking guidance systems - especially for were not available. It would be desirable. Localities are many. Some shops are open only in the morning for a few hours.

  • We went from Salzburg to Munich, and half way we have this jewel, so we stopped to rest for a few minutes on this beautiful Lake. It is full of small boats, seagulls, ducks and swans, and also the day was very sunny. They were 30 minutes of enjoyment!
