With buildings from as far back as the 11th century, Bamberg Altstadt has a remarkably intact core. You can see an interesting mixture of Baroque style and a quintessential old German feel at this site on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Look for the 13th-century cathedral, the 14th-century town hall, and the city castle. Several bridges connect the different streets and neighborhoods by way of a small island. Be sure to try the area's famous Rauchbier--a brew with an interesting smoked flavor. For a deeper look into the old town's history, pay a visit to the Benedictine monastery's small museum. Bamberg Altstadt is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our , custom trip planner Edition.

The old city of Bamberg is highly picturesque and best seen on foot. It is only a 10-15 minute walk from the train station. more »

The Altstadt is absolutely worth a visit. It is very fine to walk through the city. Very good atmosphere. Good shops and cafés. more »
-
A lovely little town full of great antique shops, sites well-worth visiting and typical restaurants. However, they do pull in the sidewalks early and it's best to get to the restaurants by 8pm. more »

Amazing old architecture

We made a very spontaneous trip to Bamberg. Without much planning, you can quickly find free parking spaces from where you can quickly get to the old town. The old town is absolutely worth seeing. We can only recommend them. We only ate one ice cream, but the prices for an old town with this flair would be completely inordable. For a family outing without stress and hustle and bustle highly recommended.See original
