Altes Rathaus, Bamberg
(4.8/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web)
Resting on an artificial island over the Regnitz River, Altes Rathaus, Bamberg's historic town hall, is one of the city's most iconic landmarks. According to legend, the citizens of Bamberg took ram stakes into the river to build the hall when the bishop refused to grant them any land for it. The building received its impressive Baroque and Rococo frescoes during the 18th century. Pass through large arches as you cross the bridge to the building, which divides the hillside Episcopal city from the bourgeois island city. Inside, you can visit the prestigious Rococo Hall and the Ludwig Collection, which includes precious porcelain. By using our Bamberg itinerary planner, you can arrange your visit to Altes Rathaus and other attractions in Bamberg.

  • The Rathaus is worth visiting to view the murals and plaster additions on the outside walls. The view from the back of the Rathaus is picture worthy too.
  • This historic landmark of the city, first mentioned in 1387, was rebuilt between 1461 and 1467 in a Gothic style with later updates in Baroque and Rococo. This very striking building occupies a small ...  more »

  • We were with a larger group in the old town hall and were very positively surprised. The exceptionally friendly service with a nice dose of humor has contributed to a very good mood. The food, absolutely convinced. Only some colleagues who had come with a lot of hunger would have encountered like something more on the grill plate. I had a fish soup and a veal steak with truffle sauce, because I would like to come back in any case. The restaurant is highly recommended.

  • Excellent Franconian cuisine with the icing on the cake. All of the food we had was to the point, no matter whether it was the salad, the Saeed or the desert. There are not only the classics from the kitchen, but also many cleverly executed dishes that you would expect, like E.g. the gold perch fillet. The conditions are very good and competent, it happened the first time that the operation has, advised us to order, because we would not otherwise create it less and was so right! Very entertaining it was also about it when we came into the conversation a little. In short: we have us felt very much at home in the old town hall and very very good eaten. This 5 star!
