The imposing Altenburg castle, which dates back to 1109, sits on the tallest of Bamberg's seven hills. During one period, bishops resided here. During another, it served as a prison. Arrange a guided tour through the castle for more information about its past. For a small fee, you can climb up the tower to take in the superb views of Bamberg. Put Altenburg and other Bamberg attractions into our Bamberg vacation generator, and watch your holiday take shape.
