Mummelsee, Baden-Baden
(3.7/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Lying on the Black Forest Hochstrasse scenic route, is one of the few cirque lakes in the Black Forest remaining from the Ice Age. The lake is 1,032 m (3,385 ft) above sea level, and its surrounding mountains offer excellent hiking opportunities. The highest mountain, Hornisgrinde, features a lookout tower at the top--the hike up takes about one hour. You also can take a stroll around the lake or rent a paddleboat. A number of picnic spots, as well as a hotel and a restaurant with lakeside terraces, provide plenty of places to rest. Our Baden-Baden vacation trip planner makes visiting Mummelsee and other Baden-Baden attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Easy to access from Baden Baden centre, we took a bus from Augustaplaz, to the lake, the views there were spectacular, and the bus ride to the top was very affordable, and we purchased a group ticket ...  more »
  • The Lake is cashed, so to choose a sunny day. Opportunities to dine and buy typical products of the region.

  • There are places that mark us and this made me in love. We day 5 December and the Lake was frozen over! Had Sun, but was really cold, but we walked around the Lake and also sit to enjoy the Sun on the chairs available (3 if I'm not mistaken, but quite large). I really enjoyed the place, highly recommend.

  • Wonderful! Excellent hospitality! Delicious food! There are not enough words to describe how wonderful this hotel is at accommodating families. We opted for the four course meal and this was well worth every penny. The food was out of this world as was the waitstaff. As Americans, we feel like this is a hidden jewel that needs to be shared. The accommodations were luxurious and the sauna options were spectacular. Make this drive to see the view, enjoy a delicious meal, shop a little, and spend the night in the Black Forest.
  • A review of the area, not the hotel. Forget the tourist shop, and take a walk along one of the circular footpaths starting here. Steep, but they lead up to some spectacular views over the forest, and as far as the Vosges region in France over the Rhein. One takes you up to an old abandoned French radio station occupied after WW2.
  • There is a typical Baden-Württemberg Shop who sells food and local stuff. Also they have something like a Snackbar which is nice. We have eaten the Black Forest Cake and trust me....it has a lot of alcohol in it. (: All in all, if you visit the area you have to stop at this hotel and take a break.
  • We stopped here to have lunch. It is a very popular area. It has a big picnic area that you can sit down and also enjoy the Mummelsee view. The lake area is very beautiful, if you have time you should also plan hiking around, or at least just around the lake.
  • Beautiful lace to sit by the lake and tae in the views
