Burg Stahleck, Bacharach
(4.4/5 based on 150+ reviews on the web)
Standing on a cliff high above Lorelei valley, Burg Stahleck was built at the behest of Archbishops of Cologne in the 12th century to guard the faraway Upper Middle Rhine archbishopric. The castle, whose name means literally "impregnable castle on a crag," is partially surrounded by a moat and offers views of the wooded hills and majestic Rhine. You'll also see the small town below, with its cobblestone streets, timber houses, and cozy restaurants. Today, the castle serves as a hostel. • Spire looks soon enters the town of Bacharach on the West Bank of the Rhine River and is streck Castle. I climbed on the stairs away but now used as a youth hostel in Castle views, views of the Rhine and surrounding vineyards.

  • It is a youth hostel and du are my 5 points in relation to that. The location is sublime passenger-the view. From our room we looked down on the town and the Rhine. Possible you'll find a room with a less beautiful view. Keep that in mind. The atmosphere of a castle is unique to stay. The food is fine to jeugherbergnormen. The beds are covered upon arrival and you have a bath towel per person as well as a bag of sweets. Bed do your self, of course, but there is room service to your wastepaper baskets. We had a very spacious bathroom with modern shower, toilet and wash basin. There are also rooms with common sanitary facilities in the corridor. This makes for what night movement on the course. We had a bunk bed on our double room. It is and remains a JHB but one of the best where I already stayed.

  • Located above the town of Bacharach is the Stahleck Castle. It is a good 80 degree hike to the top, but the view is very rewarding . Stretched out before u is the River Rhine for as far as your eyes can see. In the backdrop are the surrounding mountains studded by castles of the past centuries.
  • This castle was once in the possession of my ancestor Johann Von Kemper. I would LOVE to visit it someday!
  • visited just from outside because of an private event fantastic view from above over the castle and the rhein
  • Mixed feelings about this place. For a start: THERE IS NO KITCHEN. This should be more clear on the website as with no kitchen, we were forced to pay for their food. However this was of a reasonable quality for the price and breakfast (included) easily covered lunch as well. The location and exterior are stunning but the interior lacks charm - although it is functional. The room was lovely and spacious. Staff helped to provide an extra early breakfast as we were to reach a 7am train, which was great. However all in all, this hostel falls short of great.
  • Interesting place and nice view from the top too!
