St. Anne's Church, Augsburg
(4.4/5 based on 90+ reviews on the web)
The medieval St. Anne's Church-- the earliest example of Renaissance architecture in German--was originally part of a monastery built in 1321. You not only can see the apartment where Martin Luther, the seminal figure of the Protestant Reformation, stayed during his visit to the monastery (now a small museum itself), but you also can visit the grand Fugger chapel, the burial place for the prominent family of that name. The structure's elaborate interior features a ceiling with colorful frescoes and intricate stuccowork. • A carefully renovated church with a small museum on the subject of Luther and his life in Augsburg. In any case, among the 10 places you must see in Augsburg.

  • St. Anna is one of the Urkirchen of the Evangelical Church worldwide. Here, in the monastery, Martin Luther lived 1518 during his Verhöres by the sweeping Cajetan.
