Perlach Tower, Augsburg

4.4
#4 of 18 in Sightseeing in Augsburg
Observation Deck Landmark
Climb Perlach Tower, a 70 m (229 ft) tall watchtower built in the 10th century to get a panoramic view of the city-- but be prepared for a bit of a workout. The entrance to the tower is easy to miss, but you can find it on the side of the church. You will need to climb a good deal of the way up the tower on its narrow steps to get to the ticket office. Make sure to plan your climb so you are not at the top when the tower bells ring, as it is extremely loud and can hurt your ears. • This is a nice little addition to a Marienplatz visit as it is just off the main square. It's easy to miss though as you have to walk around the back of the church a little bit to the ticket booth. Th...  more »

  • About 400 steps you need to climp to have the most memorable view over Augsburg. The tower guards can tell you witty anecdotes (they even sell for some euros a small book with interesting details on the tower's hitory), for children they have honorary certificate for climing the tower and with good weather you can see in the South the beautiful Alps.
  • One of the best views in Augsburg. MUST visit when you are in town
  • Nice
  • Great views, the climb pays off :)

  • I was happy all day on the prospect of the perlachturm already. so am I rushed home speeded, with my bike, to enjoy the last rays of sunshine. Not totally free to drive by the cold of January, I made myself previously on the Internet about the opening hours. Full of beans I pulled away from home, freezing cold weather to spite, then, to then, to stand the look through the grille on the heavy wooden door set before closed gates. Incredulous, I tried to open the iron bars. My hopes, dreams, ruptured before me, as the first thin ice of a Lake, which last the expectant children still unable to pay. With empty eyes, I looked at the pink sky, slowly gave way to the dark, and with the last rays of the Sun disappear, diminished my hope for a nice reunion! I trudged away in the night, in the know this place always to rely on.
