Church of St. Ulrich and St. Afra, Augsburg
(4.5/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
The sarcophagi of Saint Afra and Saint Ulrich rest in peace in Church of St. Ulrich and St. Afra. The foundations of the current churches are built on top of the remains of two houses of worship that may have dated back to the fifth and sixth centuries. Surprisingly, the architecture you'll admire was erected mainly after the 1970s, and the abbey's Gothic-looking structures with high aches are a recreation of the past. With our world travel planner, Augsburg attractions like Church of St. Ulrich and St. Afra can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • A long gestation (the first construction dates back to 973) led to the present form of this beautiful baroque church. Very fine rib vaults, as well as the three magnificent altars which rank on the high altar of 1604. Don't miss the crypt beneath the high altar.

  • The Catholic Cathedral (late Gothic Basilica) is like a cast. Very nice 30 m high late Gothic Vault. The 3 huge altars in the choir are impressive. A visiting the Basilica should you at one soon in Augsburg in any case plan.
