Zoo / Aquarium
Opened in 1937, Augsburg Zoo now contains more than 1,600 animals of 300 species from around the globe. Although it's small, the zoo is home to an impressive variety of creatures, such as white rhinos, Asian and African elephants, and brown bears, which you can observe in their pool through a glass partition. If you're feeling adventurous, you can even ride one of the elephants. After visiting the animals, cool off in one of the dining rooms, where you'll find a buffet and self-service drink machines. Kids will love visiting the petting zoo to pet and brush goats, sheep, ponies, and other gentle animals. The attraction also includes a mini railroad and a playground with natural-wood climbing toys. • Who wants to go not only once per year in the Augsburg Zoo, for which the annual ticket is advisable. Thus, you have then also the prerequisite to deal with all animals who are interested in a more intensive. Many visitors, especially children, often develop preferences for certain types of animals. An animal sponsorship, starting at €50 per year, allows anyone who wants to bring his special affinity for the Zoo. I have thus become the big fan of capuchin monkeys. Throughout the year, young are for visitors almost always in some species to marvel at. Like many other visitors, also I guess just the "short routes" and the clarity of the Augsburg Zoo, which thus develops its very own charm. Certain species (such as polar bears or gorillas) can be seen only in the big zoos. Almost permanently, there are smaller or larger projects that realized the Zoo line or would like to realize. With a new Elephant House, which is necessary because the newer regulations and demands on the welfare is a big project to realize. Hopefully, there are young with elephants then again. Highlights are of course always animal feedings. Especially liked the seal feeding and also that the Beaver and Otter, the Meerkat, or the various predators. Also, there are several ways to get to know animals better. Since a visit to the favourite animal, for a fee, is available, or you can take a tour of the Zoo, where it explains a lot and receives. A Zoo school offers in between different presentations. To even experience spot nocturnal animals, there in the summer a so-called jungle night. Of course, all of the Augsburg Zoo on families and children is aligned. Perfectly combining you can this to satisfy his small or large hunger and thirst. In addition to the large children's playground you can breastfeed right also hunger and thirst of the entire family, the self-service restaurant with great interiors and class beer garden with a small children's playground offers a wide range of good food and drink. Halfway during the tour of the Augsburg Zoo, there is even a third refreshments. Noteworthy: Beautiful restaurant, open such as the Zoo, a year 365 days. No matter how many times I come here, is never boring me and you learn of course other Zoo fans and some staff.

  • Based on the reviews I've read, I didn't expect over-much from this zoo. I was very pleasantly surprised! The enclosures, on the whole, look well thought out and nicely maintained. We particularly lik...  more »
  • The Augsburg Zoo is very nice but definitely not one although the really big. The enclosures are beautifully landscaped and there is much to discover. Especially great, we found the walk-through lemur enclosure, without bars that makes animals watch just have more fun.

  • I feel like this zoo is a bit worn down and the animals - birds especially could have more space. We've also had major difficulties finding a parking spot, despite of the huge parking area around it. Don't get me wrong, it is still a nice zoo to got too, but on the other hand München is pretty close with the most awesome zoo. We also didn't get the benefit of "smaller zoo, smaller crowd", so again, you might as well go to München instead.
  • The animals seemed well cared for and their enclosures were pretty well made. Would recommend.
  • Nice place for a weekend escape. Not enough parking spaces though. Not enough benches in the zoo. Also smoking is permitted in the zoo which is really disturbing.
  • Animals and a scenic walk - it's a zoo. Great playground for all ages near the end.
  • Zoo Augsburg is beautiful. It can be seen in about 2 hours, so it's really good for a morning or afternoon. It is also near the Botanical Garden (with a spectacular Japenese Garden), so they can be combined for a trip. Great variety and nice enclosures for the animals.
